Got it on 12/23, avoided driving on holidays.

Go out of town on 12/27, get home on 12/31, the title arrived in the mail on 12/30. They waited for the check to clear before mailing it out.

Doesn’t matter because the licencing places were closed on 12/31 and 1/1.

10 day trip permit expires on 1/1

On 1/2 go to get it registered. Dealer didn’t sign the odometer disclosure. They are on the opposite side of Portland. No opportunity to get there after work. Left a message asking my options, no response.

Going to go down Saturday and hope that I can get back before the licencing place closes at 2:30 otherwise I’ll have to wait until Monday and pay extra fees for taking more than 15 days despite my attempts to do so as quickly as possible.

So my truck has been sidelined because of a few inches of ink.

Bummer! I admire your self-restraint, though. I’d probably drive it anyways and beg forgiveness if pulled over.

I feel your pain, I had to sit at the Boone County Clerk of Courts for an hour because they couldn’t be certain that Dude Bro X jr. who owned the car was also Dude Bro X who signed off on it

I’d be more worried about liability . Does insurance care if you’re unregistered?

Probably, so yeah at this point you’d be rolling dice. And at this time of year, what’s the point (it’s dark by the end of work). But if it we re nice, I’d roll these heavily weighted dice a handful of times before I got all the paperwork in order.

No way. I’m not risking bankruptcy or worse  over my vehicle. It already tries to break my will to live every other month.

I had a situation buying a used boat (on eBay) from a guy that was terminally ill while I was out on training with the Marine Corps.  By time I got back home a few months and got around to titling and registering it a few months later, I found out I was missing a signature from someone 1500miles away that probably wasn't alive anymore.  I may or may not have had a friend with really flowering handwriting forge a signature that looked kind of similar.

10 day temporary tag? Didn’t know that was a thing, our state gives 30 days to register, neighboring state 60, I thought 30 was pretty standard, didn’t know anybody gave you only 10. I was going to say the insurance company doesn’t care if the car is registered, but I guess that varies insurance company to insurance company and state to state. I know my auto insurance automatically covers  a car I buy even if I haven’t even told them about it for a couple weeks after purchase.  Once again, I think that is pretty standard.

Reminds me of the time I bought my neon.  I was living in Ohio at the time and the car came from Michigan.  I dollied it down and went to register it and found that one of the pieces of paper wasn’t signed off by the PO.  The clerk at the DMV was great though, she suggested that if the PO were for some reason sitting out in the parking lot, they could easily sign off on the paperwork and I could bring it back in and all would be well.  One of those wink-wink, nudge-nudge moments.  I proceeded to go outside and promptly signed on the line, walked back to the window and was on my way.  It was a good day.

Of course not, but they could sign it right there in the parking lot ;).  Or a authorized agent/power of attorney form.  They authorize you to sign on their behalf.  Most times if you just sign on the line, the DMV folks don’t care one bit.  As long as they can collect tax on the sale and the transfer fee, they don’t care.
